Dr. Amir Rouhollahi is a postdoctoral researcher at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He gained extensive experience in mathematical modeling, biomedical data analysis, medical image processing, and the application of machine learning in various biomedical projects during his MSc and Ph.D. periods. His Ph.D. thesis focused on the design and optimization of freeze-casting tissue engineering scaffolds using mathematical modeling, image processing, and deep learning. Aside from the computational modeling skills, his ability to communicate with scientists with various backgrounds has enabled him to assemble a research group for his Ph.D. thesis including Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, and Computer Science scholars. He mastered mathematical modeling of highly complex systems and built a competitive background in medical image processing and machine learning algorithms focused on biomedicine during his highly interdisciplinary Ph.D. thesis. His research in the Division of Cardiac Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital focuses on mathematical modeling and data-driven simulation of various pathologies and their application in surgery planning. Dr. Rouhollahi explores the application of state-of-the-art machine learning tools in a variety of diseases including but not limited to aortic stenosis, mitral valve regurgitation, and heart failure, and has recently developed a robust deep learning platform, freely offered to the community, for automatic reconstruction of patient-specific aortic geometry as well as computational modeling of valvular diseases.
